PetHealthCheck (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use pethealthcheck.app.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Email address — when you subscribe for updates or sign in. Used to send you health tips, product updates, and transactional emails. Never sold to third parties.
• Dog profile — your dog’s name, breed, and approximate birth year. Used to personalise your experience. Stored locally on your device and, if you’re signed in, on our secure servers.

Information collected automatically:

• Usage data — which symptoms you check, which breeds you select. Used to improve our database and app experience. Not linked to your identity unless you’re signed in.
• localStorage data — stored locally on your device to remember your preferences, dog profile, diary entries, and vaccination records. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly sign in.

Information we do NOT collect: We do not collect your dog’s real medical records, veterinary diagnoses, or any sensitive personal information beyond what is listed above. We do not run advertising and do not sell your data to any third party, ever.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and personalise the PetHealthCheck service
• To send transactional emails (sign-in links, subscription confirmations)
• To send educational emails about dog health (you can unsubscribe at any time)
• To improve our symptom database and app functionality
• To process premium subscription payments (via Stripe — see Section 4)

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in the following systems:

• Your device — via browser localStorage. Cleared when you use the ?reset parameter or clear your browser data.
• Supabase (supabase.com) — if you create an account, your dog profile and health analyses are synced to Supabase’s secure cloud database (hosted on AWS). Supabase is SOC 2 Type II compliant.
• Brevo (brevo.com) — your email address is stored in Brevo for email communication. Brevo is GDPR-compliant.

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption for all data transmission and JWT authentication for premium access.

4. Third-Party Services

• Stripe (stripe.com) — processes premium subscription payments. We do not store your payment card details. Stripe’s Privacy Policy applies to payment data.
• Brevo (brevo.com) — manages email delivery. Your email address is shared with Brevo solely for this purpose.
• Supabase (supabase.com) — cloud database for account and profile data.
• Vercel (vercel.com) — hosts the application. Standard server logs may be retained per Vercel’s policies.

From time to time, the results screen may display links to third-party pet insurance providers. These are clearly marked as “Sponsored”. We may receive a referral fee if you purchase through these links. We only feature providers we believe offer genuine value. This does not affect the impartiality of our health analysis.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right to access — request a copy of your personal data
• Right to deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
• Right to portability — request your data in a portable format
• Right to opt out — unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email
• CCPA (California residents) — you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
• GDPR (EEA/UK residents) — you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation including the right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”).

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we will remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated usage data may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.

7. Children’s Privacy

PetHealthCheck is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Terms of Service

Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using PetHealthCheck. By accessing or using pethealthcheck.app, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Nature of the Service — Important Medical Disclaimer

PetHealthCheck provides general educational information about dog health symptoms for informational purposes only.

The content provided by PetHealthCheck — including symptom analyses, urgency levels, possible causes, and recommendations — does NOT constitute veterinary medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It is NOT a substitute for consultation with a licensed, qualified veterinarian.

Always seek the professional guidance of your veterinarian for any questions regarding your dog’s health. Never disregard professional veterinary advice, or delay seeking it, because of information you received from PetHealthCheck.

In a medical emergency, contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital immediately. Do not rely on PetHealthCheck in an emergency situation.

The information in our database is compiled from publicly available veterinary literature and is updated periodically. It is not reviewed by a licensed veterinarian on a per-query basis. Breed-specific information represents general tendencies observed in those breeds and may not apply to every individual dog.

2. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PetHealthCheck and its creators, operators, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

• Your use of or reliance on information provided by PetHealthCheck
• Any decision made — or not made — regarding your dog’s health based on PetHealthCheck content
• Any interruption, suspension, or termination of the service
• Any loss of data stored in the app

PetHealthCheck is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, completeness, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

3. Premium Subscription

Free tier: PetHealthCheck offers a free 7-day trial with full access. After the trial, free users are subject to usage limits as described on the app.

Premium subscription: Premium access is available at $1.99/month or $11.99/year, billed through Stripe. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled. You may cancel at any time through the “Manage subscription” link in the app footer.

Refunds: We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis. Contact hello@pethealthcheck.app within 14 days of charge if you believe a refund is warranted.

Price changes: We will notify you at least 30 days in advance of any price increase for existing subscribers.

4. User Conduct

You agree not to:

• Use PetHealthCheck for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or reproduce our symptom database
• Share, sell, or transfer your premium account access to others
• Use automated tools to access the service in a way that burdens our infrastructure

5. Intellectual Property

The PetHealthCheck name, logo, app design, and symptom database content are proprietary. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without written permission.

Your dog’s profile data and health diary entries remain yours. We do not claim ownership over your personal data.

6. Third-Party Links & Affiliate Disclosure

PetHealthCheck may display links to third-party services, including pet insurance providers. These links are clearly labelled as “Sponsored”. We may receive a referral commission if you purchase a product through these links, at no additional cost to you. These partnerships do not influence the health analysis or urgency assessments provided by our symptom database.

7. Service Availability & Changes

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue PetHealthCheck at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes. PetHealthCheck is not liable for any loss resulting from service interruptions.

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be submitted to the courts of competent jurisdiction.
